On August 15 YOUmedia Chicago will host what we’re calling the Fashion Dump, inspired by the Style Wars program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).

Style Wars Workshop and Fashion Dump challenge hosted by Cheryl Pope.

Fashion Dump
For the design challenge we will dump a pile of clothes on the floor in YOUmedia and give teams of youth short challenges to select garments and style them to reflect a certain idea (e.g. “rebellious,” “creative,” “statuesque”). Teens will be thinking about fashion as a creative process driven by ideas. Teens will also get to practice presenting and articulating those ideas to a captive audience.
*Studio lighting and dress forms will be set up so teens can take photos of their creations to share.
Teens from Free Spirit Media will be present to create a news feature of the event as part of its News on the Road program, maintaining the two strands of the program: creative production through fashion + multimedia storytelling to capture the learning.
